There was multiple reasons why I wanted to become an Athletic trainer. Let this blog explain my reasons why I became an Athletic trainer
Reason #1: The first reason I became an Athletic Trainer is because I was still in high school at the time I went to a football game at Wisconsin School for the Deaf. When I was watching the football game I had noticed that a player from WSD team go down. I saw at the time they did not have the appropriate medical professionals at the game and they were scrambling to find the right person. Once they got the nurse out to the football field I knew right away that a nurse is not qualified to do that because they don't know a whole lot of information on athletic injuries. So, since then that was what I wanted to go to school for and at the time I didn't know what Athletic trainers do so I did my research and thought Athletic training would be a great fit.
Reason #2: I was a multiple sport athlete up till after my freshman year of high school and that's when I decided on just sticking with just hockey. When I played hockey there were times I had noticed that there was an athletic trainer but had no interaction with us at all or we would not have one at our games. An example when I was at a tournament in Viroqua, WI one of my teammates took a funny hit during the game and there were medical professionals there but the thing is they put a c-collar on and transported her to the nearest hospital. She came back to the hotel a few hours later with the c-collar still on but I noticed that her injury had nothing to do with the c-spine because when I looked at her she had dislocated her shoulder and the people in the hospital didn't even noticed it. So when she came back to our hometown she was able to get her shoulder back into place. At that point I knew that I wanted to get into Athletic Training to prevent things like this from happening again but also be there for the athletes instead just showing up and watching the game.

Reason #3: The last reason is because I liked the feeling of helping people feel better not only physically but mentally with their injuries. And with having a hearing loss I was a hands on learner so Athletic training was a perfect fit. Having that constant reminder that they are thankful for being helpful with the teams and the injuries or you get that reminder from an athlete saying they wish that you could stay because you were the only Athletic Trainer that actually care about them and their well being.
